most computers. However, there is another difference between humans and computers. Computers don't forget information they are given, but humans often do. D Research says that husbands do not do their fair share of work around the house. A study from an American university says that men seldom do the same share of housework. Researchers interviewed 182 working couples who became first-time parents. Both husbands and wives worked almost the same number of hours in full-time jobs. However, men did five hours a week less housework than women after their baby was born. It is a different story for mothers. Becoming a parent added 21 hours a week to a mother’s work. Most of this was looking after her baby. New fathers did not do more woke because they did not realize the mother was doing so much more. Another reason is that after a baby is born, fa
thers follow the “traditional” roles. That is, the mother looks after the baby and the father works outside. This happens even when the mother is working the same number of hours in her job. 84. It is found that ______ do less housework. A. wives B. husbands C. parents D. babies 85. The underlined sentence “It is a different story for mothers.” Probably means ______. What is your favorite color? Do you like yellow ,orange, or red? If you do. you must be an active person who enjoys life. Do you like blue? Then you are probably quiet, shy, and would rather follow than lead.
Colors do influence our moods (情绪). A yellow room makes most people feel more cheerful and more relaxed than a dark green one; and a red dress brings warmth and cheer to the saddest winter day. On the other hand, black is depressing(令人压抑的). There was a black bridge over the Thames River near London. The number of people who killed themselves on that bridge used to be larger than on any other bridge in the area --until it was repainted green.

I'm glad to have received your letter. Our holiday life has changed a lot. Learning and
relaxing are still very important to us. Besides, we often help our parents do housework or farm
work. Through that, we realise how hard our parents work every day. And we can make a habit of
laboring at the same time. Also, we take an active part in social activities as volunteers.
Sometimes, we go to the streets to collect rubbish or go to the hospital to cheer up the sick
children. We try our best to help people in need and make our hometown more beautiful. We find
great pleasure in all these activities.
Best wishes !

D Doctor Seuss was born in 1904. By the middle 1950s, he had become one of the
best-loved and most successful children's book writers in the world. His books are very popular with young
readers. They enjoy the invented words and the pictures of unusual funny animals and plants.
In 1954, life magazine published(刊登) a report about school children who could not read. The report
said many children's books were not interesting. Doctor Seuss strongly hoped to help children and decided
to write books that were interesting and easy to read. He used words with the same ending sound, like fish
and wish. He did not receive training in art. Yet, he drew the pictures for most of his books.
In 1957, Dr. Seuss wrote The Cat in the Hat. He used less than 230 words to write the book and even a six-year-old should be able to read it. It was a fun story and easy to read. Children loved it. Their parents loved it, too. Today it is still one of the stories they like best. The success of The Cat in the Hat made him want to write more books for children. In 1960, he wrote a book using less than fifty words. The book is called Green Eggs and Ham.
In 1984, Doctor Seuss won a Pulitzer Prize (普利策奖). He was honored for the education and enjoyment his books provided American children and their parents.

I am a middle school student. I have recently learned from the newspaper that you are going to build a factory here in my hometown. There is no doubt that it is good for the development of my hometown and it will provide us with more jobs. Most of us stand by the program. However, some of us are worried that the factory will make much noise and pollute the environment of the area. I would like to know whether you have any plans for the environment protection.

Sometimes I really doubt whether there is love between my parents .Every day they are very busy trying to make money for my schooling.
One day ,my mother was sewing a quilt(缝被子). I silently sat beside her.
―Mum, is there love between you and Dad?‖ I asked in a very low voice.
With surprise in her eyes ,she stopped her work for a while .Then she said ,“Susan, look at this thread(线). It can hardly be seen, but it’s really there .It makes the quilt strong. If life is a quilt ,love should be a thread. Love is inside.‖
I couldn’t understand her until the next spring .At that time, my father suddenly got sick seriously .My mother had to stay with him in hospital for a month.
After they were back，my mother helped my father walk slowly on the country road everyday. They were so kind to each other and it seemed they were the happiest couple.
After two months my father still couldn’t walk by himself.
―Dad, how are you feeling now?‖ I asked him one day.
―Susan, don’t worry about me.‖ he said. ―I just like walking with your mum. I like this kind of life.‖ Reading his eyes, I knew he love my mother deeply.
Now I understand that love is just like a thread in the quilt of our life. Love is inside, making life strong and warm.

A mouse was surprised to discover that the farmer and his wife had a mousetrap(老鼠夹) in the house. It ran to warn everyone, ―There is a mousetrap in the house!‖
A hen raised its head and said, ―Mr. Mouse, this mousetrap is only for you. I won’t be worried about it.‖ The mouse turned to a pig, ―I am sorry, Mr. Mouse, but the mousetrap has nothing to do with me, either!‖ the pig said. Then the mouse turned to a cow. ―It sounds like you have a problem, not me.‖ The cow said. The mouse returned to the house with head down and it was very sad because no one would help.
That night the farmer’s wife heard a loud sound and she rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness she could not see that it was a snake. The snake bit(咬) the farmer’s wife. The wife caught a bad fever and the farm thought the best way to treat a fever was chicken soup. So the farm killed the hen for the soup. The wife got worse and her friends came to visit her. The farmer had to kill the pig to feed them. But the wife didn’t get better and died. Her friends came and the farm had to kill the cow to feed all of them.
